PUBLIC STATEMENT – WATER RATES
§ The Council continues to receive a great deal of feedback on the new water rates. We know you and others are concerned.
§ We realize and understand that the surcharge is creating financial problems for some residents. The Council and Administration have met and discussed options to address the impacts. The Council will be considering changes to the water rates at our October 7th meeting. You are encouraged to attend this meeting and to provide your input. We will also send the information to all those signed up for our informational e-mail list.
§ As background, this needed rate structure was implemented this past January. The impacts have surfaced this summer when outside watering began.
§ The water rates are structured to fund much needed capital projects, operations and to encourage water conservation.
§ A lot of information was provided and input received as we went through the public process relating to the new rate structure. The information packet that was provided at the November 29th town meeting provides detailed information on the purpose for the rate study, the process and joint efforts of the Council and Administration, and the research of our outside consultant and citizen stakeholder group.
